From organising fund raisers to charity shops, reach out campaigns to special programmes for families, the InnerCity mission of Christ Embassy has been in the front line when it comes to giving hope to indigent children in Nigeria and the world at large.
This faith based NGO founded by the renowned pastor of Christ Embassy Church, Rev Chris Oyakhilome has brought hope to countless families. Bringing smiles to their faces and lifting the burden of catering to the children from these homes.
Children they say are the leaders of tomorrow but to them the future looks bleak and this is why Rev Chris Oyakhilome set up an organisation dedicated to taking care of the homeless children and families in need of help.
Recently 52 students graduated from the InnerCity School for children. With the intense dedication and support from staff and partners of this prestigious ministry arm, countless lives have been changed for the better.
One of the events that held earlier this year that touched many was one where the children sang about ending child poverty in the country.
Joyful and energetic children of the InnerCity Mission Kids Choir ministered at Christ Embassy Lagos Zone One – Mafoluku Group on Sunday, the 22nd of May, with mouths full of praise and thankful hearts.
For these children, music provides the platform to develop their talent while delivering a powerful message to everyone that TOGETHER we can #EndChildPovertyNOW. The brethren expressed their excitement at having the Kids Choir minister live in their church.
The Esteemed Group Pastor of Christ Embassy Mafoluku Group, Lagos Zone One – Pastor Ayo Olusola said – “These are children who would have been a source of danger to the society but today, they have been positioned to be influencers of the society and we as a church have pledged to do more.”
The InnerCity mission is not just about taking care of the daily needs of these children but also about teaching them the word of God and how to apply it to their daily lives.
Love is the number one thing taught at the InnerCity mission and in order to cultivate the giving mentality and a spirit of neighbourly love in her kids, the InnerCity Mission Nursery and Primary School organized an annual Charity day event tagged ‘Reach Out with Love”. The event was designed to teach the children the greater joy in giving than receiving, especially considering their background and the peculiar life in the inner cities that is full of violence, anger, lack, and self-centeredness.
The children showed much enthusiasm and eagerness as they brought several items to school including basic requirements such as food and household items. They also brought some of the belongings close to their hearts to give as gift donations.
Loaded with these gifts alongside Ministry materials and Rhapsody of Realities Bibles, the school pupils reached out to their less fortunate friends at the Lagos state Children’s Centre, Idi-Araba, to make the special presentation.
It was truly an experience for the pupils. They had interesting interactions with the kids at the Centre as they spent quality time with them.
Once forgotten, now remembered, these children can now reach out to other kids like them and this was made possible by the wonderful and esteemed partners. The children of the InnerCity Mission cannot but say “Thank You” to the man of God Rev Chris Oyakhilome and those who have shared and contributed to his vision towards these children for making certain that the cycle of child poverty is broken.
